Go Google Yourself!! Fairy Tales Do Come True.

"Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale."
- Hans Christian Andersen

If you are you a writer or a blogger like me, then you'll appreciate this post.  I have been at this home biz endeavor for a while. (Started trying to blog and write in 2011.)

Do you ever Google yourself (your name and a search term) to see what pops out in the search results?

It's a serious search but also a lot of fun!

I write at various sites and wanted to quickly find some content I had published several years ago, so I Googled myself (fairy tales, cmoneyspinner).  The search engine generated 86,600 results (0.50 seconds). WHOA! The results also change depending on which browser (Chrome vs Firefox).  My fairy tales quest came true.  I found what I was looking for. YAY!!  I couldn't believe it!!   The search engine actually recognized me!  Happy to report that the first two search results actually did relate to what I was searching for.  What was curious was the rest of the page results? I don't quite get the connection. (O.o)  No matter.  The search results were fruitful.

There probably is no connection other than the fact that my name also shows up with some of those content links and the search engine decided to produce some more results to fill out the page.

Let's face it. It's artificial intelligence and a handy research tool. But the search engine can't do the thinking for you. You got the results. Now you're going to have narrow it down and do some cherry picking.

The search was still fun though! :)

By the way, do you know the name of the man who is called the father of fairy tales.  HINT:  It's not Hans Chrisitian Anderson.  (Answer.)

In the Year 2070 Will People Be Asking ~ What's Google? (O.o)

Since reading the book and seeing the movie “1984” and living through the late Prince’s hit song “1999” ( Party Like It’s 1999 ), and wondering why Justin Bieber thought it would be cool to “ party like it’s 3012 ” (What’s going to happen in 3012??) … I have come to realize that futuristic books and movies need to project way way way out into the future.

.
Like if you’re in 2020, instead of predicting what technology will be in 2070 (the next 50 years), you should probably predict what it will be like in the year 2520 (the next 500 years).

That way nobody is still alive like me to say … “Yeah! Uhh … that 1984 scenario? 1984 came and went! Big Brother didn’t happen! … Also, 1999 came and went. It wasn’t the party of the century!”
There is an article by eMarketer dated 2017 which reveals the results of a survey which asks the question:
  • Will People Still Be Googling in 50 Years?
Of course, those who responded to the Survey said: YES!.

But 50 Years? That’s not a future prediction. In terms of technology, 50 years is like the blink of an eye. The question should have been:
  • In 500 years, will people still know what Google is?
It doesn’t matter what the answer to the survey is because in 500 years not one person who answered the question will be around to say … “I remember when …”

Just a random thought.

WorldWideWeb Will Be Celebrating B-Day Soon! We Celebrate WWW Every Day!

To direct everyone's attention on the birth and the evolution of the web, TIME Magazine published a list of the Top 15 most influential websites. This is a historical marker because it will be the first time I ever agreed with a list. 👍

5. YouTube
4. Facebook
3. Wikipedia
2. Amazon
1. Google

The article mentioned Microsoft (Internet Explorer) and Netscape (Navigator). Remember them? They weren't on the list. I'm fine with that.

OK. I don't agree with the entire list. But the sites that ended up as the Top 5 was no shocker to me. You may or may not agree the other 10 on the list. If you're a non-geek like me, your reaction will probably be like mine: 'Eh! It's TIME's list.'

Fun fact extracted from the article:
The worldwide web will turn 27 years old on Dec 20, 2017.
