Entertainment: 6 Old But Gold Bollywood Movies With an Awesome Soundtrack

These days video rental stores are practically nonexistent because of online video streaming. But three (3) decades ago, video rental stores changed my life. How so? The stores introduced me to foreign films and in particular, to Bollywood films. What’s so great about these Indian movies? The music! Yes, the dancing is awesome too. But you can’t have dancing without music. Right?

Many of these films have an awesome soundtrack. In fact, it’s fun to search YouTube just looking for the songs. There are lots and lots of films but these are my Top 6. Yes, 5 out of 6 are Priyanka Chopra-Jonas movies. I’m a huge PCJ fan.

(1)  *Karam (2005 ‧ Drama)

A young married couple should be able to lead a fairy tale “happily ever after” lifestyle. If only the husband wasn’t a paid contract killer; a bad guy who made some other bad guys really angry. It made their lives really complicated.  Music video: Tinka Tinka performed by Priyanka Chopra-Jonas.

(2)  *What’s Your Raashee? (2009 ‧ Bollywood/Comedy)

A guy needs to find a wife or lose his inheritance. He decides to choose his bride according to her “raashee” (her astrological sign).

(3)  *Fashion (2008 ‧ Bollywood/Drama)

A young woman pursues her dream of being a top fashion model, making sacrifices and bad decisions, along the way to get to the top.

(4)  *Yuvvraaj (2008 ‧ Drama)

There were light-hearted moments. But there was nothing funny about the plot. There are 3 brothers. One brother is mentally challenged and when the father dies, he leaves all the money to this son. The other 2 brothers, who feel that have been cheated, scheme to try to get the inheritance.

(5)  *7 Khoon Maaf (2011 ‧ Thriller/Drama)

The film is called “7” because the woman has seven husbands. Each time she marries, she is certain the man she chose will be her soulmate for life. It doesn’t work out and she conveniently becomes a widow, albeit she is never charged with any crime. In the end, she does find her soulmate. To be fair, the other six had it coming.

(6)  *Dostana (2008 ‧ Comedy/Drama)

Two guys need to rent an apartment at a complex in Miami, Florida USA with one catch. They have to be gay. They pretend to be gay, sign the lease, and their roommate is hot young heterosexual female that both of them fall for; only she doesn’t know it because she thinks they’re gay. The movie is cute and funny!

Spotlight on Bollywood Legend : Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan is one of my favorite Bollywood actors. It's fair to say that he is one of the first Indian stars I came to know who made me want to watch more Indian cinema, even though they have to be English subtitled. His full name is Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan. He started his career as a child actor.

“In 2001, he founded Aamir Khan Productions, whose first release, Lagaan, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and earned him a National Film Award for Best Popular Film and two more Filmfare Awards (Best Actor and Best Film).” (Quote Source: Wikipedia)

~ My first favorite film? Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India – Not really familiar with any of his work before this film. I like this movie for its historical value and because it was the film that introduced me to this cultured actor. He really left an impression.

~ My second favorite film? Fanaa – A painfully beautiful love story; emphasis on the pain part. The story was so tragic yet so touching and beautiful.

Are you familiar with this actor and his work?

Who is Aamir Khan?

#DemocracyDefeated: How Indian Right-Wing Groups Stalled A Bollywood Period Drama ~ Global Voices (My Opinion)

Global Voices is a publication that opens your eyes to the world around you. This particular article peaked my interest for two reasons. Number One, I enjoy watching Bollywood movies. Number Two, I am a huge fan of Deepika Padukone.

I AM APPALLED!!! SHOCKED! and quite frankly, DISGUSTED!!! at the content of this article. Not upset with the article writers. In fact, they are very brave to write the article at all. How do they know there won't be a bounty on their head too???!!

Is this what real life is like in India, a democratic country?

So???  QUESTION.
In India, politicians or political leaders can actually threaten citizens with beheading?? Oh my!

Say what? Oh of course. The article does use the word “alleged”.

Alleged? Oh!  Does that mean it's not REAL??

NO! Alleged means it could be VERY REAL. But right at the moment, there is no PROOF!!

So??? QUESTION.
If Ms. Padukone gets her head chopped off, will that be PROOF??

Here are a few excerpts from the article that will send shivers up and down your spine.

"...  put a $1.5 million bounty on Deepika Padukone's head, asking followers to behead her and the movie's director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Other threats included chopping off Padukone's nose, burning her alive and beating up other actors in the movie. ..."

Follow up to this Global Voices article dated Nov 2017.  Report by Geo.tv dated Jan 9, 2018.

So???  QUESTION.
Now that the film will be released, does this mean that threatening citizens of India with beheading is OK?? Oh my!
