The 1942 film "Casablanca" which starred Hollywood legends Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, did not make my list of memorable war movies, even though it was set during a war. If I was maintaining an official list, it would for sure be on my Top 10 favorite romantic love stories.
Using that introduction and background to shine the spotlight on one of the most incredible artists in the 21st century, Gordon Bruce. Take a look at his painting. Is it cool or what?!! Nobody will ever forget the line: "Here's looking at you, kid." Everybody who sees this piece of artwork might be tempted to say: "WOW! Look at this, kid!!!"
Aliens and UFOs, now called UAPs, are a very hot topic among "We the People". It's so serious, the US military and key officials in the government are still concocting bogus stories about them.
UFOs: Are They That Serious?. By Helen McCaw and David Broadwell | Medium

LOL. People need to realize that “governments” of almost all of the countries LIKE TO PLAY GAMES! They work on Top Secret projects that they can't openly talk about it. WHY? Usually it's because they don't want The Enemy to know. Sometimes, it's because they don't want the citizens to know. It might cause OUTRAGE!! Because sometimes citizens are like parents. They just don't understand.
However, seeing that we all live on the same planet, there is always a possibility someone might accidentally, unintentionally, stumble upon a TSP (Top Secret project). If and when they do, there has to be a “story” that must be FED by the Government to the GP (general public).
UFO … UAP … mentions or sightings equal BOGUS STORIES that sound kind of believable. Those stories serve a purpose. The purpose being to take your mind off of the real top secret project and get you talking and speculating about something that does not exist. Why do you think nobody has ever presented concrete evidence or proof of aliens? Because there is none!
Here's the reality. The people who work on those projects sign a Confidentiality Agreement. That means they're sworn to secrecy. If they try to break the agreement and tell somebody? The Government has “ways of dealing with people like that”. What? Will they kill you? Oh no! They'll just make you look like a blithering idiot and an individual who lacks credibility. We know NOW that Galileo was not crazy! I'm sure they knew it back then during his time. But they still put him away!
Am I saying the UFOs or UAPs are not real? Not at all. I'm saying they are real. And … if they don't belong to US, then they belong to The Enemy. If they belong to US, we have our reasons for not wanting the public to know. If they belong to The Enemy, we obviously don't want them to know that we know!!
Admit it. My logic is flawless. LOL. ☺
** For the record, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (the original with Michael Rennie (1951); not the remake with Keanu Reeves (2008)), will always be my favorite movie about aliens and UFOs.
It's not often my husband picks a Friday night movie for us that's in the sci-fi genre. A science fiction film is not on either of our lists for favorite movie genres. But if we watch the trailer and it looks like it might be exciting entertainment, then we'll get comfortable, dim the lights in the room to enhance the mood and the visuals, and give the flick our undivided attention.

◆Our Friday night sci-fi movie pick was “The Titan”. It's a 2018 Netflix original.
Don't even know why Mr. Jackson made the comparison, but he described “The Titan” as an “Unsexy Version of 'The Fly'”.
Unsexy? Oh? Were they trying to be sexy? I didn't even think they were trying to be believable! I didn't buy any of it!
Even though I disagree with Mr. Jackson's comparison, I wholly agree with the concluding statement in his review.
“The movie ... doesn't want to seduce you.
It wants to put you to sleep.”
The movie was awful! It couldn't even help with insomnia.
How bad was it? I am seldom moved to give a film or TV series a rating. It was so disappointing I asked my husband to Rate It and give it one star. (He was the one holding the remote/controller.) My husband expressed his disappointment by saying he had already wasted an hour and a half of his life and he wouldn't waste a minute more by taking the time to give the film a rating.
This Netflix original thriller was a waste of time and money. (IMHO.) If you like sci-fi and you are especially interested in films where they explore the possibilities of life on another planet … DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE!!
These days video rental stores are
practically nonexistent because of online video streaming. But three
(3) decades ago, video rental stores changed my life. How so? The
stores introduced me to foreign films and in particular, to Bollywood
films. What’s so great about these Indian movies? The music!
Yes, the dancing is awesome too. But you can’t have dancing without
music. Right?
Many of these films have an awesome
soundtrack. In fact, it’s fun to search YouTube just looking for
the songs. There are lots and lots of films but these are my Top 6.
Yes, 5 out of 6 are Priyanka Chopra-Jonas movies. I’m a huge PCJ
fan.
A young married couple should be able
to lead a fairy tale “happily ever after” lifestyle. If only the
husband wasn’t a paid contract killer; a bad guy who made some
other bad guys really angry. It made their lives really complicated. Music video: Tinka Tinka performed by Priyanka Chopra-Jonas.
There were light-hearted moments. But
there was nothing funny about the plot. There are 3 brothers. One
brother is mentally challenged and when the father dies, he leaves
all the money to this son. The other 2 brothers, who feel that have
been cheated, scheme to try to get the inheritance.
The film is called “7” because the
woman has seven husbands. Each time she marries, she is certain the
man she chose will be her soulmate for life. It doesn’t work out
and she conveniently becomes a widow, albeit she is never charged
with any crime. In the end, she does find her soulmate. To be fair,
the other six had it coming.
Two guys need to rent an apartment at a
complex in Miami, Florida USA with one catch. They have to be gay.
They pretend to be gay, sign the lease, and their roommate is hot
young heterosexual female that both of them fall for; only she
doesn’t know it because she thinks they’re gay. The movie is
cute and funny!
Watching after years 7 Khoon Maaf on Netflix.
An underrated film, and an utterly underrated performance by the splendid Priyanaka Chopra.

When you hear the name Mark Antony, do your Cleopatra antennas go up? Mine do. It's because of that old classic movie which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
So! Do you wonder? If Mark Antony slept with Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, then … he hung out in the right circles. Yes? No?
Eh! Let's just say his circle of friends were "interesting".
Did you know the Antonia Fortress was named for Mark Antony?
Historical records indicate that it was Mark Antony who persuaded the Roman Senate to make Herod the King of Judea (king of the Jews). To show his appreciation and return the favor, Herod the Great, aka Herod the Builder, built a fortress where Roman soldiers lived and could keep an eye on the Jewish people and sort of “keep the peace”. He named this military stronghold “Antonia Fortress” after his friend, Mark Antony.
Can't show you a picture of the real structure because the fortress was destroyed along with everything else in Jerusalem in A.D. 70. (Image credit: Jerusalem Model, Antonia Fortress – Wikimedia Commons)
As for Marcus Antonius, he was long gone before that event. He committed suicide, circa 30 B.C.
Some speculate that the Antonia Fortress might have been the place where Pontius Pilate tried Jesus.
Loyal fans of Priyanka Chopra-Jonas will appreciate this enthusiastic Bollywood movie review of the film about a real-life Indian female boxer called Mary Kom.
When you hear the words "Easter bonnets" do you think of that old movie with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland called "Easter Parade"? Do you think of Judy Garland wearing an Easter bonnet with the frills upon it?
When I was little my mom always made me a brand new dress for Easter Sunday. But she never made me wear an Easter bonnet. Looking back, I realize that the Easter bonnet was a big deal for some people; but not for others. But my mom was never really a hat person, whether or not it was a holiday. It didn't matter to me if I didn't have a hat because I was happy to have a new dress. These days I don't see very many people carrying on the tradition of Easter bonnets. At least not in the USA. I'm not sure why that is. In fact, I don't know when this tradition started and I don't know when or why it stopped. So I did a little research and here's what I discovered.
Fun Facts and Traditions
~ The Easter bonnet is a European tradition. It came from the tradition of women wearing flowers to celebrate spring.
~ It wasn't until after the Civil War in the USA, that the bonnet tradition was adopted. “The first Easter after the war ended was known as the “Sunday of Joy.” Mothers, wives, and daughters came out of mourning and replaced their dark clothing with outfits full of pastel colors and spring flowers, to again signal a renewal of life. In the 1870s, the first Easter Parade in New York City occurred.”
~ Although the tradition began in the 1800s, it really did not become popular until around the 1940s. It seems that old movie “Easter Parade”, starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, helped to popularize these customs. But the traditions did not last very long because the country went through The Great Depression. An Easter bonnet was considered lavish as well as unaffordable. By the 1950s, few people cared about carrying on this tradition.
** That's interesting because … whether there was a depression or even a war or any kind of disaster or catastrophe, people made it a point to celebrate Christmas.
(That's just a side comment.)
Anyway! My question is:
~ Do you (or your daughters or granddaughters) wear an Easter bonnet?
Don't get me wrong, I like hats. But if you see me wearing one, I'm probably just trying to cover up a “bad hair day”. LOL. 😃 😃
On June 7, 2015, acting legend Christopher Lee bid us farewell. He departed this life. Henceforth, he will be spoken of as the late great Christopher Lee.
Such a polished actor and a distinguished gentleman with an immediately recognizable voice. You don't even have to see him. If you walk into the room and one of his movies is on the television, without looking if you hear his voice, you'll ask
"Bradley Cooper made the cover of the October 2015 anniversary issue as one of 'The Most Influential Cultural Figures of the New Millenium'. Mr. Cooper along with several other 21st century men deemed "groundbreaking icons" are profiled on pages 103 - 133." Influential cultural figure? Groundbreaking icon?
In 2015, we said farewell to one of my favorite actors, an unforgettable screen legend, Omar Sharif . He may be gone but he is not forgotten. At least not by me.
When did slavery begin? We know it did not originate in America because its practice was commonplace during biblical times. The Old Testament scriptures weave intricate details into the accounts of daily lives. But the Bible can NOT be used or rather misquoted to justify slavery. The Bible simply points out very objectively that human bondage existed and that it was not God's idea!
If interested in historical fiction Under The Lion's Paw grapples with the subject of slavery; the time and place setting is the 1830's through post-civil war, in both the U.S. and Canada.
Whistleblower stars Academy Award® Winner Rachel Weisz as Kathryn Bolkovac; a woman on a mission and a crusade. A mission to get her daughter back and a crusade against human trafficking in postwar Bosnia. This movie was inspired by real events.
Used to travel on official government business when I was a civil servant. Because my kids were young and my husband worked for himself, it was easy to arrange my work travel around the summertime when the kids were not in school. Part of me misses the fun and excitement of seeing new places when traveling.
Another part of me is glad to stay at home since many things have happened to not make traveling "safe" and there is an added layer of stress. Also, there are no funds allotted for travel in my budget.
But if you can't afford to travel, there are definitely other ways to satisfy your wanderlust or vacation dreams.
Can't travel? Go to the movies! :)
Always looking for foreign or international film recommendations anyway. Found this list (link below), compiled by Pedro Richardson, a hotel management professional who shares his travel experiences.
Mr. Richardson's list two of my ardent desires: traveling and watching a good movie!
However, his list does NOT include two (2) films that inspired my wanderlust, so I'm suggesting you add them to the list. Consider them a BONUS TIP!
– How could anybody, young or old, possibly watch this movie and not want to immediately book a flight to Rome, Italy, is beyond me!

● Film #2: Queen (2013)
– This is a Bollywood film, starring Kangana Ranaut. It's described as an Indian comedy-drama. Her fiancé decides at the last minute that he doesn't want to get married after all. What's a girl to do? Go to Europe! What else? More specifically, go to Paris and Amsterdam. Who needs a husband on a honeymoon anyway?? This movie is too cute for words! But if you watch it, you will definitely want to plan a European vacation.

Know why Korean dramas or K-dramas are ridiculously popular? They're addictive!
I got hooked on Korean dramas because of this one movie. “Commitment” is a 2013 South Korean spy thriller film starring Choi Seung-hyun, a teenage boy recruited by the government and trained as an assassin who is sent on a mission to kill an assassin. One word review for this movie? Intense!!!
So if you have never experienced a Korean drama, watch this movie first. You'll get hooked! (View trailer.)
Having been bitten by the K-drama bug, I started looking for more entertainment from South Korea and found a 2009 TV series titled “Tamra, the Island” and the main character, a young female diver, is played by Seo Woo. It is educational and entertaining. Paints a picture of life during the period of the Joseon (or Chosŏn) Dynasty in Korea and you really do get a very clear picture. Because of this program, I got hooked on Korean historical period dramas.
So if you never knew anything about Korean history, watch this series first. You'll get hooked! (View full 1st episode.)
Just a bit of trivia. Not being familiar with Korean actors and actresses, I had not noticed it initially but once I began to learn Who's Who in SK entertainment, I realized that the same young lady who played the young man's younger sister in the movie (“Commitment”) was the same person who played the young lady's little sister in the TV show (“Tamra, the Island”). Her name is Kim Yoo-jung. She's an adult now but she has been acting since she was a child and in fact, she was one of the best-known child actresses in South Korea. Her filmography and list of awards received for acting are impressive.
If you would like to join in on the K-drama addiction, the best sites in the USA to watch Korean dramas online is viki.com. Netflix also offers a limited selection.
An interesting foreign movie find. Had to do a little research though. "The Legend of Suram Fortress", Sergei Parajanov & Dodo Abashidze, 1985 film ~ “… based on a Caucasus Mountains legend that tells of the repeated efforts of the Georgian people to construct a fortress against invaders. …” Info & Quote Source: http://www.moma.org/calendar/events/668
"The Caucasus Mountains (like the Ural Mountains to the northeast) are usually considered the dividing line between Asia and Europe, with the northern region of the Caucasus in Europe; and the southern (Trans-Caucasus) in Asia--so technically you can consider the mountains themselves as either part of Asia or part of Europe. The region is divided between Russia, Turkey, Iran, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and bounded on the west by the Black Sea and on the east by the Caspian Sea. ..."

My definition of “foreign movies” means non-English speaking with English subtitles.
I heart foreign movies and am always searching for the educational and entertaining treasures to be found by viewing foreign cinema. One of the places to find some really good suggestions to add to my watch list is in a Google Plus Community for Movie Lovers. Joined this community in 2013.
Reviewing my community contributions from 2013 to 2017 reveals an interesting variety when it comes to my taste in movies and yes ... before you say it ... some of the movies are not foreign. So glad that this community is still active, still available to the public, and currently boasts over 10,000 members. Here's a recap of some of my shares.
