Harry Belafonte

  • If you were preparing a list of iconic and legendary American entertainers, then Harry Belafonte would be on that list.
  • If you were making a list of notable civil rights activists in America, then Harry Belafonte would be on that list.
  • If you were making a list of humanitarians worthy of double honor for their good works, then Harry Belafonte would be on that list.

Celebrities : In Memory Of : Omar Sharif (1932 – 2015)

In 2015, we said farewell to one of my favorite actors, an unforgettable screen legend, Omar Sharif.  He may be gone but he is not forgotten.  At least not by me.

One of the few actors in American cinema from back in my day, who was not American or even of Western / European descent. He was Egyptian, born in Alexandria. Remembered (especially by me) for his role in Dr. Zhivago and for the fact that he was just an absolutely gorgeous man.
Honestly! You're a loyal fan and think you know all there is to know about a celebrity you admire so much. Followed his career while growing up and did not learn until after he departed that his real name was Michel Shalhoub.
Nevertheless ... Goodbye Mr. Sharif.

Celebrities : In Memory Of : Christopher Lee (1922-2015)

On June 7, 2015, acting legend Christopher Lee bid us farewell. He departed this life. Henceforth, he will be spoken of as the late great Christopher Lee.

Such a polished actor and a distinguished gentleman with an immediately recognizable voice. You don't even have to see him. If you walk into the room and one of his movies is on the television, without looking if you hear his voice, you'll ask
What Christopher Lee movie is this?”

Hollywood Legend: Remembering Doris Day (1922 - 2019)

Must say good-bye to "America's girl next door" and Hollywood legend, Doris Day (April 3, 1922 - May 13, 2019).  She had a major influence on my childhood development.  She charmed me.  That was her appeal.  I think she charmed everyone; publicly and privately.  I loved all of her movies.  No really.  There is not one movie she starred in that I did not like.

For me, the most memorable movie was the one where she sang "Que sera, sera" and she had to land that airplane: The Man Who Knew Too Much.  It was a departure from her usually light-hearted comedy roles.  That movie was very serious and she played her part quite convincingly.  I have wonderful memories of this fine actress.

She wasn't included in My Top 10 List of Iconic Female Celebrities' even though she suits the definition for "iconic". It's because she deserves a spotlight all her own.
