What You Can Learn From "How Stuff Works"

Are you a person who loves trivia? ... who loves to learn all kinds of facts and figures about anything and everything? ... or you like a surprise, i.e. when you stumble across information about possibly some things you needed to know but you you didn't know?

There are a bunch of fantastic websites loaded with that kind of “stuff”.

Three very popular sites are: BuzzFeed, MentalFloss, and Listverse.

But there is one site in particular that, in my opinion, is worth signing up to receive their newsletter via eMail. They have videos , brain games , puzzles , lists , quizzes , advice on money matters, electronics, science, etc.

The site is called “How Stuff Works”.

Here is a sampling of article titles:

– Is Sapiosexuality a Real Thing?

– 10 Scientifically Sound Weather Superstitions

– Disastrous Food Combinations Quiz

– Can You Make a Living on YouTube

– Birthstones Puzzle

– 6 Common Sayings You’re (Probably) Saying Wrong

10 Fairy Tales That Are Way Darker Than You Realized

– Do you know how a light bulb works? Take the Quiz.

Isn't some of that “stuff” you want to know? :?: :D

OK. Maybe this kind of stuff does not interest you. But that kind of stuff does interest me and it is what drew me to this site. Then the light bulb went off in my head. Hey! At this site you can also find practical advice, tips, and tricks for writing, blogging, affiliate marketing, and social networking which are my work at home activities that I pursue to make money online.

RE: Example: WRITING – You will find help on how become an author or for writing articles about a specific niche like travel or mental health. You can find advice on how to get a job as a video games writer.

RE: Example: BLOGGING – You can find information about almost everything: how to get started blogging; an explanation of how to use features of blogging platforms like Tumblr and Blogger; or how to add your blog to your Facebook page.

RE: Example: AFFILIATE MARKETING – You will find articles on how affiliate programs work; how banner ads work; who uses targeted ads and how they use them; and how millennials have figured out to generate revenue from affiliate marketing.

RE: Example: SOCIAL NETWORKING – Get advice on how to use social media or social networking for your business or your career; or how to start your own social networking site (if you are ambitious enough to become the next Facebook). Also, learn what happens to your social media when you die!

It's easy to peruse the How Stuff Works website and find useful articles. Use the search box in the upper right hand corner OR use my favorite way to seek and find by Googling it. Take a specific term and direct the search engine to only search the site. For example, if you want to know the articles written about social media, go to the Google search box and type in “social-media site:howstuffworks.com” (without the quotes).

Practical Financial Advice to Help You Survive the COVID-19 Crisis

Some may come through the coronavirus pandemic no worse for the wear. But many are going to struggle if they don't take certain measures to protect themselves financially.

Although I have a degree in business, I am not a professional financial advisor. My online work skills lean more towards me being an amateur content curator. I scour the world wide web looking for reliable information and advice on everything from A to Z. When I find “good stuff” published by the people who know what they're talking about, instead of bookmarking and selfishly hoarding my findings, I share the wealth. Figured other folks might have the same questions and are also searching for the answers.

The US government has approved an economic stimulus package and the noble goal is to provide financial assistance and relief to individuals, to businesses, and especially to healthcare providers. (Senate Approves Roughly $2 Trillion in Coronavirus Relief – WSJ) The citizens of America are grateful. Nevertheless, individuals and family units need to seriously think about their finances and what they need to do so that they are not crushed by this crisis.
Here are some useful links that you can read now and/or bookmark for future reference.

Magazines That Pay for Travel Writers (and Other Paid Writing Work)

Some of my fellow bloggers have a passion to write about their wanderlust.  Reblogging this list provided by Erica Verrillo, publisher of Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity.

Idea? 💡

  • Perhaps you can turn some of your memorable travel photographs into works of art and resell them as art. It's a thought.

If you are not a travel writer, do not despair.  Here are links to other income-earning writing opportunities.  Perhaps there is one for you (and me).

15 Magazines That Pay $500 or More

While most literary journals generally offer modest compensation (if any), there are some magazines that pay generous professional rates. Many of these specialize in niche markets, which means they have a loyal readership. If you happen to have the expertise or a background that would appeal to their audiences, these magazines will be happy to read your pitch.

Use MyLot as a Diary or Journal and Earn Extra Income

Are you a housewife or househusband who needs a piggy bank?

Do you keep a diary or a journal?

Do you have random thoughts worth at least two cents?

Some people maintain diaries to save up their random thoughts for future reference or for posterity. MyLot is a great Site for making friends and earning supplemental income. MyLot is also an excellent site for sort of keeping a diary or a journal, saving your points of view and perspectives, and earning a few pennies for your thoughts. If the pennies add up to $5, you can cash out and … Oh my! … There's no telling what could you do a whole 5 dollars!!  You could probably buy a nice scarf.

I have been an active member of this community for 2 years. The time flew by so quickly I had not even noticed. There is something about this site that I like and I think I like it because it's a great place to store my “randomness”. I consider the discussions that I initiate as historical markers and reference points for my thoughts, views and observations about persons, places, things, news, other events, etc., on any given day. MyLotting has become a habit that I don't really want to break. I've already gotten used to the publishing platform and like the way my content displays. Below is a list of the titles for discussions I started during November 2017. See how random they are.  MyLot is a social community, much like Facebook and Twitter.  The same thoughts you share all over social media, you could share at MyLot and get paid.

Why don't you join MyLot.com
